Sinotruk HOWO Tipper Trucks: Pre-Shipment Inspection Report
Jinan, Shandong

Sinotruk HOWO tipper trucks are among the most requested heavy vehicles by Ethiopian construction companies. We conducted a pre-shipment inspection of five HOWO A7 8×4 tipper trucks (371HP, 25-tonne payload) at Sinotruk's Jinan facility on behalf of a construction client based in Hawassa.

Inspection Scope

Our inspection covered: chassis integrity (visual and measurements), engine model and serial number verification, cabin interior and exterior, hydraulic tipping mechanism, axle load ratings, tyre specification, electrical systems, and documentation verification. We also conducted a cold-start engine test and a full tip cycle test with ballast load.

Key Findings

Four of the five units passed all inspection parameters without issue. The fifth unit had a hydraulic oil leak at the tipping cylinder seal — flagged and returned for repair before loading. Sinotruk resolved the issue within 24 hours. Engine model on all units was SINOTRUK MC11 (375HP actual rating vs. 371HP nominal) with verified serial numbers. Tyres fitted were Linglong 12R22.5 — an acceptable tier-2 brand for the application.

Loading Verification

We were present at the Jinan rail yard for container loading. All five trucks were secured using manufacturer-specified chain tie-down points. Container weight distribution was verified by weighbridge before departure to Qingdao Port. Total containerized cargo: 3×40HQ containers, 1×20ft container with spare parts order.

Recommendation

We approved the shipment conditional on the hydraulic seal repair, which was completed. The HOWO A7 in this specification represents good value for Ethiopian road conditions. We recommend buyers always specify the SINOTRUK MC11 engine (not the older WD615) and request cabin air conditioning as a factory option — aftermarket aircon fitment in Ethiopia is unreliable.

Key Takeaways
  • 01Specify SINOTRUK MC11 engine over older WD615 when ordering HOWO trucks
  • 02Pre-shipment hydraulic system testing detected a seal failure before shipping — saving costly repairs
  • 03Request factory aircon — aftermarket fitment in Ethiopia is unreliable
  • 045 trucks fit across 3×40HQ + 1×20ft containers
